lower unit seal question Evinrude 35

There is a seal I need to replace on above the upper bearing on my 1983 35 hp Evenrude lower unit. The dealer sold me one seal, and when I took it apart, there are two. Do I need to buy two seals of the same part number and install them face to face, or is one seal enough. I'm kinda new to doing my own repairs, especially on lower units.

Thanks!

Go to the BRP website and look at the parts diagram for your motor. It will show all the seals.

Re: lower unit seal question Evinrude 35

Thanks, Jim. I went to the BRP site and looked at the same print the parts man did when I first got my one seal. I couldn't see very well there, but at home I zoomed in enough to see that they ARE indicating two seals, and they even have a little diagram to show that yes, they ARE installed face to face.

So much for the knowlegable young man behind the parts counter! I even asked the mechanic in the back room, but maybe he thought I was trying to steal info from his 35 years of experience -- he wasn't much help, anyway.

Thanks again!

Prop shafts typically also have two back to back seals. Glad you demystified the drive shaft deal.
