1976 Johnson V-4 135h.

I'm getting water in the lower unit. Should I do a pressure test before attempting to rebuild it? I typically do all of my own repairs and would like to do so on this.

I have a manual for this motor and disassembly didn't look too difficult... Then again, I don't want to get in over my head. I could sure use the money that I would have to pay the shop for this repair... I've located a seal kit for around $40... what else will I need to do this right?

Your input is appreciated.

Re: Lower unit seals - DIY project?

Before you go to the time and expense of replacing all the seals on your lower unit, try replacing the washers on your fill and vent screws. Could be a $2 and 2 minute fix to your problem.

Failing that, hopefully others can give you some advice on the replacement of all the seals.

Good Luck!

Brew
