I have a 1990 Evinrude 150 and I think lower seals are leaking. It is definately gear oil coming out from around prop. What is involved in replacing these seals. I am mechanically inclined so I think I can do it.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: lower unit seals

How cold a temperature has the motor been stored in? Cold storage can lead to seepage. (not necessarily bad seals)

Re: lower unit seals

I live in Arkansas and the winter temps haven't been that bad. Do you think I just need to fill back up with lube and run for a little while and then check for leaks?
What is the proper way to fill lower unit?

Thanks

Re: lower unit seals

Thats exactly what I would do.....
As A last step to the oil change, leave vent screw out and top up with squirt can full of gear oil. Sometimes forcing it in from bottom doesn't fill properly.(air gets trapped)

Click me!
