This engine is on a 17' Montauk w/long shaft. Did Mercury make a shorter shaft for this engine ? It's obvious its too long for this hull and the owner would like to swap it out which will allow the boat/motor to be trimmed properly.

Thanks again one and all.

Most of the inline sixes came with the longshaft (20") midsection and gearcase. Normally a 17 footer would have a 20" transom.

If you need a shortshaft (15"), you will need to do some digging as they are not common.

I will measure the transom, but it seems less than 20 just visualizing it now. I may find the info on a Boston Whaler site too. The prop is considerbly lower than need be in the owners opinion and just looking at it also seems deep for that boat. He's been careful and lucky never hitting anything and also says it needs to be trimmed/tilted moreso than other Montauks he has seen. I have never been in the water with it as yet, it was stored/set aside for fifteen years outside so once the restoration is done I will get fisrt hand at it in the water to see how it trims unless I can find a swap.

Thanks again.
