Well...as some of you know I left several posts a few weeks ago about swapping out one lower unit from another drive with my existing one. Well....tore into it last week and got her together Friday night. Went out Saturday and launched it in lake erie. After warming it up at the dock, the moment of truth arrived. Shifted it into reverse, and low and behold, it worked the way it should! No clanging, whining and knocking to get into gear! I was pleased!!! And it also confirmed my suspicion that there was something wrong with my other lower unit. And of coarse...im going to take it apart and see what is going on in there. Question is now....what could be some of the possible causes ??

in most cases there has been some type of underwater strike that has stressed something. most cases a chipped tooth of a gear.
