2000 50 HP Johnson

When in gear only my outboard vibrates. The motor runs great. While on my second outing this year I noticed a vibration that vibrated to whole boat. It started vibrating after running around for about an hour or so.

Last year around the end of the boating season I bonked it real good on a sand/rock bar. I did a run up in the drive way with prop and without prop, it vibrates without it.

I checked the oil (that I changed during winterizing) and I found a small sliver of meatal on the magnetized oil plug.

Did I strip a gear? I'm fairly handy and have a little experience working on outboards. The wife says take it to the shop. Not sure if I should argue???

Re: Lower Unit Vibration

I've never had the lower unit of an outboard apart, on a scale of 1 to 10 is it a big ordeal? My buddy said I may need special tools like a bearing puller.

I've seen drawing of other outboards and there sure is a lot of stuff in there. Is there a risk of parts flying out or will it just drop down after unbolting it?

Thanks for the reply.
