I finally got water to come out of the tell/tale now i can't get the lower unit back on. Please help anyone!!.1968 merc 500 50 hp 4 cylinder thunderbolt.
push it up until it stops, let it back down just a hair then wiggle the flywheel and try again. Sounds like you are having trouble lining up the splines.
I use reverse when taking mine down, the prop locks and I can wiggle that instead of the flywheel. Good Luck.
Just curious, how did you get water to come out of the taddle tail if the lower unit can't go back on? Not familiar with that year, but if you just shot water through the hole and made it come out the midsection, your problem might not be solved. Water pump could be bad.
