Lower Unit Won't Tilt Up

Some assistance please 5.7 Mercruiser 1985 with 270 hours on engine and outdrive.All original. In water today,and outdrive won't tilt up. It does come up (for about three seconds) then the tilt motor stops. Press down, it goes down. Any thoughts?

Did you push the trailer button also? You were only operating the trim portion, there is usually another button on the control that you press along with the trim to raise the drive all the way.<br />The boat is new to you?

Don S....man am I embarrassed. You are correct! Being an "outboard" man for sometime where the tilt/trim button is on the throttle lever...never thought about it being two places. I went down yesterday and looked at the dash...there it was "push to trailer"....I laughed out loud! Thanks man.
