I have a 1996 Merc 135L S/N 0G408024, it has been sitting for over a year, I put it up according to the owners manual prior to storage. It started just fine in the drive way, I utilized a water supply, took it to a lake to run it. The water pressure seemed low and after about three minutes I got a temperature buzzer, it also has a very weak water discharge. After reading other postings and a little 2+2 I figure it to be the water pump. I have ordered a repair kit and a shop manual. I have a pretty good mechanical backround and the lower unit removal seems pretty straight forward. I would like to get a jump on the removal and dissasembly while I am waiting and was wondering if there were any tricks to the lower unit removal (there always seems to be) any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: lower unit

It is not very hard to do it, in fact, it's pretty simple, and you have book and parts already.
Only trick many people "falls" into it is bolt under trim tab (the gray fin sticking down from back of lower unit), you have to remove a hidden bolt underneath it.

Other than that, it takes me 25 minutes to do job.
