Lower unit

Aq125a/270. By boat will not go backwards? It shifts into reverse,sounds like everything is spinning. But dose not move. Is that probably the lower unit not working?
It also seems like the top speed is less than it was before. And even thou it increases in rpm ,it dose not increase in speed. Just wondering ,if that too could be related to the worn lower unit ?

Eddie, 270 drive, so check for these, but first see your OEM manual so you'll know which parts we're talking about;

lift unit vice rod not fully retracted and is holding the latch open
broken lift spring that normally make the hooks catch the set pin
worn latch hooks
set pin is broken or missing
frozen parts that aren't returning to the latch position


Do not operate in reverse until you fix this.

Ayuh,.... Is this a Trailer boat, or a Dock Queen,..??

If it's moored in the water, I'd suspect the bottom growth is holdin' it back, on plane...
