Does anyone have any experience or ideas on lowering a short shaft engine for use on a standard boat transom. I would like to use a jackplate since I cannot cut down the transom on this boat. However it is a tiller steer 40 HP Evinrude and I am afraid that this will interfere with the tiller arm control. Any advice would be appreciated. Chris

Howdy, Wildlife.

I agree that a jackplate would leave you with an inaccessible tiller.

Depending on the year of your 'Rude, you may be able to put an extension in the leg, or you may be able to swap it for a long shaft leg.

I think I would go shopping around for a long shaft parts engine. Same year Johnson would also fit.

Good luck. :)
