Lowrance LCX-28c HD mapping accuracy

I just installed a new Lowrance LCX-28c HD on my boat. This unit has all the pre-loaded maps. How accurate should I expect the maps to be. For example, when I'm in my driveway, my position on the map is off by several hundread feet. When I'm on my local lake, and fishing shorelines, the map may show my trail on dry land. The lake has many narrow inlets and the channel of these inlets is indicated with a blue line on the map. If I follow the blue line, I know I'm not in the channel. Most of the time I would guess I'm off by 50'. I guess I expected accuracy to be within a couple of feet. Were my expectations too high or do I have a problem with my equipment?

Re: Lowrance LCX-28c HD mapping accuracy

I've got a Lowrance iFinder and a LMS-522.

I found the pre-loaded maps to be useless. I picked up the Topo maps for the iFinder, but use them with both units. I also have the lake maps for Canada.

I use the lake maps on the big lake here and they are dead accurate. If I go to another lake, the lake maps don't include them so I use the topo map. o lake detail but the shoreline is bang on.

I agree that the Preloaded maps are not accurate. I have a GlobalMap 6500c that is essentally the same as the LCX-28c on the GPS side of the unit. I have a couple of the Navionics XL Gold Charts and find they are extremely accurate to with 10 yards, i.e., entrance to a harbor marina. Between the two Navionics charts I have a complete digital set of charts from SE Alaska down to and including Northern Baja. I have been "Shopping" for the early Lowrance Radar setups that utilize these units as display heads.
