Hi guys,my "NEW" used boat has a lowrance depthfinder 3800 model. It keeps showing .5 ft and thats it .When I traced the transducer it was just hanging in the bilge. Is there a way to mount it in the bilge????I have always had transom mount and with the boat in the water for the season I wont be able to mount it there.

Re: Lowrance transducer mounting

Put some water in the bilge, about 1/2 inch. Turn on the locator and move the transducer around in the bottom of the bilge to make sure you are getting a good signal, as you don't want to mount the transducer over any metal plates, bolts, or air pockets in the hull. When you find a good location, "mark" it by setting a heavy object in that location, a 3" rock will do. Now drain and dry the bilge. Now you are ready to epoxy the transducer onto the hull in the above location. You need a complete layer of epoxy under the transducer to avoid air pockets. After you mount it, a second coat of epoxy around the base will help secure it in place.

Wish I could remember a which magazine I was reading on line a few days ago, but they used a 4" piece of PVC pipe, caulked it to the bottom of the boat, set transducer in it, filled with water, caulked around the top of the pipe, covered with a CD (use the CD center hole for the lead wire)and hook-up to receiver. Sounded preety nifty. You might search in "Trailer Boats, Boating Life,or Go Boating America online. Think it was one of them

Ken
