LU oil, not filled

Morning Fellows, I winterized the motor last month (856X4L). Everything good except I didn't have new washers for the LU and did not have enough gear oil to fill the LU up. Is this or could this be a problem? I figure I would wait until early spring to replace washers & top off the gear oil.

Most important is that you got the old oil out to prevent any LU oil containing water to freeze in the LU causing problems.

New washers and oil in the spring is fine (Just don't forget to do it) or you'll have potential leaks and/or lack of proper lubrication in the LU

my cent and a half

I have heard, do not know for fact, but have heard that if you don't fill it completely, it allows room for condensation to form inside the gear case.

If the the gear case is sealed how much condensation could there be?
Even if the plug seals are old.Not like a vented gas tank.

If the old oil was clear with no free water in the lower unit, then there will probably be no problem.

If, however, there was water present, then the presence of air in the lower unit will accelerate the possible formation of rust on the steel parts.
