While changing out the gear oil this past weekend, the old oil had a stream of lighter colored almost tan looking oil mixed in the w/ the rest.

Is this a Seal Leak & is replacing the LU Seals a difficult job?

Thx Dave

It's fairly easy to do, if you have good general mechanical experience. Also depends on which motor you have. Some are easier than others. Corrosion is also a factor as these motors have been around for a while. Some parts/bolts can be difficult to remove.

Model 856X4L.

Sorry about that, I just realized I didn't include the model. Thank you & YES I'm pretty good w/ a wrench. I changed out the impeller two seasons ago so most of the bolts have been out & I used antisieze to install.

I assumed I did have a leak as I've not seen this stream the past 5 years.

Thanks again. Dave

It also depends on how much water was in the oil.My 85's both drain plugs weeped a little water. No mater what I tried to seal them with.I always found a bit of colored oil in the lower when I changed it.
You need to get it pressure tested before you disasemble. It might be just a fill gasket leaking.J
