Hello Lubedude, I've been following the quick fix post recently and after this weekend of cutting out the floor of my project (16"quachita bass and ski), I found that I got a bit carried away and cut into the hull 4", three feet back from the bow. Didn't realize the floor would eventually meet the hull(so far away from the bow)! duow! The hull is about 3/4" thick there. Would Duraglas work here or should I grind a V-groove or something an layer with glass and resin? I welcome others input as well and can post a pic if needed. Any suggestions? Thanks!

PS- Bassrunner I read your warning on your post a bit too late :D . Matter of fact my project is similar to yours, 16'tryhull that looks like the one in the distance of one of the pics you posted.

I sure would. Pressure will be hitting the cut from the the outside mainly. If it was me, I'd grind a 'V' groove about a inch or so on both sides down about 1/8" deep, then do the glass & mat on it. With a larger area patched on the outside, the cut shouldn't be able to move when pressure or impact hits it. It'll sort of be like a rivet head spreading the tension out over a larger spot than the cut itself.

On the inside, put a couple layers of glass/resin patch over the cut extending out at least a inch.

That method has worked for me in years past.

Ed.

I would do the grinding/cloth thing. If you are not going to match gelcoat or anything like that, use epoxy and cloth for the repair. If you will be trying to match the repair cosmetically, use polyester resin for the repair. Gel won't bond well to epoxy.
