Lubricating steering cable

I'm probably going to need to replace my steering cable. I did get some oil into the helm and that helped considerably but It's still stiffer than I would like. A friend thinks that if I disconnect the cable from the helm and disconnect it from the non cable side of the trim tube that I should be able to pull the cable out of the tube and soak it in oil. I haven't tried it and I don't think it can be done or I would have read something on this forum about doing it. Maybe I'm wrong has anyone tried doing this or is it not possible?

Thanks

pappy, if your talking about a teleflex cable, heres a link;

you are probably going to have to get the number off the black seath, and replace it.

Might be stiff through the tilt tube too...

I use a break wheel cylinder hone to clean out the tube, lubed with a strong degreaser (Mercury Power Tune works great). Blow it dry and grease. Clean the cable end......

You might be surprised!
