Lubricating throttle and steering

This forum has been very helpful so I'm back with another question. The steering and throttle are pretty sticky on a 15' aluminum I just bought. I unscrewed the throttle box and was going to use degreaser to clean out all the gunk but I was wondering what kind of lubricant should be used. I was going to use PB Blaster (anyone familiar with this stuff, kind of like WD-40) but should I use grease? Also what is the best way to lubricate the steering wheel mechanism? There is a spool below the dash that can be unscrewed. Should I go in there?

First determine where the problem is.
Disconnect the cables at both ends and move them back and forth by hand. They should move freely. If not, there is no way to lubricate them, they will need to be replaced.

Also, there is no grease/oil reservoir in the steering helm. It is a simple mechanical design.
:p
