Here I go - I decided to get away from paying someone else to do this for me - downside is I am rookie so I am looking for some help from more seasoned boaters.

I got a Alpha One 3.0 LX, I/O, Mercruiser transom, '97 with power steering.

Specific questions I have are:

- On lubrication for the power steering unit - I keep looking for the lube fittings ( manual indicates the use of Quicksilver 2-4-C marine lubricant) - can't locate them - All I found were orifices ( flushed with the body of the unit) plugged with what looks like tiny bearing balls - nothing close to look like a lube fitting - Any suggestions?

On the engine coupler - Manual indicates "lubricate every 100 hours or every season with Quicksilver engine coupler spline grease" - help required is: How do I access the lubrication points?

Thanks in advance.

Since it sounds like you have the Merc service manual, look at page 1B-14 for lubing the coupler. There should be a zirk on the coupler, If you don't have the grease zirk, you have to pull the drive and lube the shaft.
Not sure what to tell you on the steering cylinder. The cables seldom have grease zirks.
The steering cylinder itself will only have a zirk if it's the old style cylinder. The newer doen's have one.

Don:

Not a Merc manual, I am going with a Seloc repair manual which covers, to some extent as you can see - the engine I got.

Could you point me where to look for the zirk ( in case this one has it)?

Waldo

funny those drive coupling splines.. they go from a system that relies entirely on a thin spear of grease being put on the drive splines when the drive is fitted most of which would get wiped off.. to a totally sealed tube system that once packed full grease via the grease nipple looks like it could be left alone for the life of the life of the unit..

just thinking aloud.. he he..

trog
