Just repaired a 2 stroke Tohatsu 3.5 HP portable, it's going under its break in period with 25:1 fuel/oil mixture. Was pushing a boat that has excessive hull drag. From fast idle to medium throttle the small engine pushes top, when going to 3/4 throttle the engine revs up and in a short time begins losing top rpm due to hull drag increment, what would happen if let engine do that, will a rod be pulled out crankcase, will engine end overheating badly ? Temp and peeing water pressure are perfect while running. Have not experienced peeing temp rise while losing power at 3/4 throttle for short periods. Moreover, didn't want to demand much out of that portable until break in period is over.

This 3.5 HP is a J-24 aux engine, need to be sure engine will push satisfactorily at 4-5 knots when out of wind. Definitely will need to finish the break in period pushing a lighter and much friendly hull to check if at 3/4 throttle engine runs fine with smooth rpm, thoughts about this scenario?

Happy Boating
