I've purchased a 12X20 portable building to take to my hunting camp for a camp house. It has eight foot walls with the studs on 20 inch centers and uses 36 inch metal siding.
My camp is inside the levy system on the Mississippi river and will need to be raised approximately 8 feet off the ground. The other buildings that we've raised we used old cresote bridge timbers 4X10's to go under the buildings to lift them with. I've been on a hunt for some timbers and can't seem to find any and new timbers are way too expensive. I've considered using light poles since they seem to be easier to come by...to the tune of .50 a foot.
My question is.... If for some reason I can't come up with the light poles or timbers would a standard treated pine say 6X6 or 6X8 by 16 foot long be substantial enough to go under the building, side to side, to hold the weight and to lift it with?
