made by Merc, tohatsu or yamaha

I have a 2002 Merc. 9.9 EXLH big foot 4 stroke (ser#OT546522) that I am getting ready to tune and service. I have been told was made by Tohatsu by one dealer and made by Yahama by another dealer, so it's a Merc. but not a Merc!
What is it?????? and what gear box oil and engine oil do I use??

Fairly sure 4 strokes of that era had yamaha powerheads on them and the two strokes were just starting to shift from genuine merc to rebadged tohatsu.
