I should have said that there is no U.S. manufacturer in that model type. Mercury is made in China and the rest are made in Japan...Except for Evinrude which only offers a DFI 2-stroke.

Mercury Marine has manufacturing locations throughout the US, as well as in Belgium, China, Japan, Mexico, and the UK. Depends on the model.

Go with the 'Rude 2 stroke.Cheaper to buy, run, and repair.

Re: Made in USA

With the world economy I don't think anything is made exclusivley anywhere anymore.

Some parts are from here some from there and it is parly assembled in several locations so even if you do fond an American company the engine was probably built in Mexico, so I woudl say no.

Buy the engine that has the most convenient dealer to you.

Re: Made in USA

Thanks to all who replied. I did call Mercury and they told me there 4-strokes 75 horsepower and up are made in Wisc. I believe if we want to have decent paying jobs in our country we have to buy prodact made here with at least mostly american made parts. I always try to buy american made products. Our lifestyle depends on it. Thanks, Camper

I have no idea how much of it is occupied but I drove by a huge Mercury plant in Wisconsin last week (I was up there for work)

I drove by a few Harley facilities as well (not dealers)

Re: Made in USA

when you look at that american made merc, carefully inspect all the electronics wire harness, and carbs.
most have a tag labled made in mexico or singapore.
just the way it is in a global economy.
trust me, I dont like it anymore than you but it doesnt stop it from being the way it is.
some of the posters here that whine about toyotas, hondas and a few other japanese based company products will actually reccomend a BRP product.
go figgure.

Re: Made in USA

Have never been able to consider something from canada as foreign. When you think , BUY AMERICAN, that should include canada also. If nothing else, think of them as the northern confederate states. Think most of my FORDS, wont buy GM, were made in canada and am happy that they made them and my money went there.
Right now they are infesting my island and will miss them when they go home. Party people! FRED
