well, sorta like it, Ive been saying all along that all protein is bad bad bad, have to have some carbs, just make em good ones

my bad carbs were a bagel and a cup of cooked grits

gonna be a LONG winter, lol

ah well, the more I lose, the less I tear the truck up!

:p

PS this accomplishment was made with the one woman tastykake parade having donuts, candy, and assorted cakies in the house. I am not a big fan of sweets, but a chocolate donut and coffee DO taste dammn good!

but not as good as losin tonnage feels, lol

also, I only mentioned the truck 284 times today, which I think is pretty good for me

-----have a kind energy diet of my own going--
big bowl of oatmeal w/ little butter and sugar mixed in for flavor-not too much though--AND-- one clove fresh garlic-raw-- for breakfast (wanna kissy poo honey???).

the deal is that oatmeal will slow release carbs over course of day, unlike a blast of carbs from pasta, energy bars and the like. Garlic has all kindsa antioxy properties as well as keeping vamps at bay (and every one else for that matter) :D .

---real sweet truck Ray--- ;)

oatmeal is GREAT for sustained release, never heard of butter AND sugar tho, hmmmm, I have butter spray, which just might work

Im a major grit head tho, and although the glycemic index is way way better for oatmeal, Im still ahead of the game with grits over say, a bagel

or toast

or waffles

oh chit, shut up Ray, shut up Ray

I gotta admit, I woke up after three hours of sleep, and I am WIDE awake, this is SCARY, its almost like I am on speed (umm, whatever THAT feels like)

course, I dont know how much is cause of anticipating the S-10 (thanks, the red really sets it off  ) or cause Im not churning out gallons of insulin, lol

My doc said my blood work came back low thyroid (after my insistence that he DO A INTENSIVE STUDY ON IT!!!) and high triglycerides

now ive been bugging doc for a few years now, im sluggish, basal rate is down (97.5 temp) amd my strength is down - it takes effort to do things now

I suppose SOME could be due to, to, to ...(ACK) my ummmm, growing lack of youth - 41 is far from dead, but birth was wayyyy back there, lol

gotta start clanging those weights again

hey, how bout shredding the garlic into the oats?

THAT would sure give em some flavor!!!

:D :D :D :D

Hey Ray,

What the heck are grits really?

All I know about them is what I learned about them in the service.

1) No matter where you put them on your plate, and no matter how high the walls are on those military plate/trays, those grits always seem to find their way into the rest of the food on your plate/tray.

2) Still haven't figured out what a "homoney" is yet, and I got out of the service 20 years ago!!!

To this day I still cannot eat grits!

I'd rather have them green eggs the Marines loved to serve up at breakfast, lunch and dinner, then even look at grits!

Grits... YYUUUUUUUUUKK !

But to each his own.

Re: Made it thru day one of South Beach Diet

Grits are corn based, just ground up hard corn thats been in a alkaline bath ...

here ya go

Hominy grits, or just plain grits, are an institution here in the South, though they can be hard to find in northern states. Hominy is made from flint or dent corn, varieties with hard kernels that are dried on the cob then removed and soaked in a solution of baking soda, lime, or wood ash. This process causes the hulls to soften and swell. The kernels are then hulled and degermed using friction, then dried. Grits, coarse whitish grains, are ground from hominy, as is masa harina, the flour used to make corn tortillas. If you really want to start from scratch, Mountain Laurel has instructions for the whole process, including making the lye solution with wood ashes.

kernel.gif - 2.1 K It's interesting that the alkaline soaking process also unbinds necessary niacin in the corn, and has an effect on the protein balance. Though the overall available protein is decreased, the relative availability of the lysine and tryptophan are increased. The alkaline process has been used for centuries where corn was a native food, but in areas where corn was introduced as a new staple, the process was not. Pellagra, a niacin and tryptophan deficiency, became common disease in areas where corn was the main source of food, as in the early South. One has to wonder how ancient civilizations discovered the process which made corn a more balanced source of nutrition.

&nbspThe word grits comes from the Old English. "grytt", for "bran", but the Old English "greot" also meant something ground. Some cookbooks refer to grits as hominy because of regional preference for the name. Americans have been using the term "grits" since at least the end of the 18th century.

also, VERY important, pay attention to the spoon part, that means TICK GRITS

1.Thou shalt not put syrup on thy Grits
2.Thou shalt not eat thy Grits with a spoon
3.Thou shalt not eat Cream of Wheat and call it Grits for this is blasphemy
4.Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors Grits
5.Thou shalt only use Salt, Butter and Cheese as toppings for thy Grits
6.Thou shalt not eat Instant Grits!
7.Thou shalt not put syrup on thy Grits
8.Thou shalt not put syrup on thy Grits
9.Thou shalt not put syrup on thy Grits
10.Thou shalt not put sugar on thy Grits either

Grits is Good!

:p :p :p :p :p :p
