Re: Magneto bearing

"Mark 55 outboard Mercury
Question- Regarding the bearing right underneath the timing belt pulley. What is the best way to get the bearing out of there? We looked at both manuals and there is no visual picture."

What (they?) are referring is a support tower that the magneto attaches to ( inverted)... the bearing is "captive" with the use of spl. "tab" washer... the tabs on washer need to bent, to remove brg.
thanks to Mr. Tom Glock

Re: Magneto bearing

That was a good answer MY. Thanks. You were the first that actually understood what we meant. So, can you get the split tab washer anywhere?
Found info. on another site that says we need to buy a whole new adapter. Can't get the bearing and split tab washer separately.
Thanks for replying. Taught me to leave my post there even if I get an answer. :D
Bassy

Re: Magneto bearing

Due to metal fatigue the tabs want to break off. We can giszmo it up if all else fails, but while we have the time, thanks to winter, we'd like to see if we can't find this part to purchase.
Tell your friend thanks. Glad he knows these old girls. ;)
Bassy
