I have a no turn over problem on my 1995
3 liter GM Mercruiser setup.

The starter is new and will turn the engine
over when you apply power directly to the
large and small posts with a screwdriver.

But when you use the ignition the engine will
not turn over. The gauges come on and look good.
However when you tun the key all the way the
gauges all return to nothing and they will not
move again nor will the engine turn over.

The only thing that occured was the lanyard
switch was off and the boat was turned over
several times. Also the big red 50 amp breaker
appears to be sticking out further than it used
to. Can these be fixed if this is the problem.

Replys Welcome thanks.................................

I would also check the switch and the fuse holder for cracks and corrosion.

If the breaker won't reset, It Proabaly Already Is....

Check the switch with a multi-meter... Then work your way to the starter.... That's what the tech will do....

Re: Main 50 Amp Engine Breaker

Thanks for the info..............

There is power to the ignition switch wires.
Of the three wires, two appear to have power.
However I think there is a short as you
have suggested. The reason I think this is because
I jiggled wires and fuses at the fuse panel and
got the gauges back when the ignition switch was
on. But alas no turn over when the ignition
was turned all the way to start.

Would excessive condensation have destroyed some
part of the fuse panel. I sanded all the fuses
and all the connections???????????

Again thanks so far.................

Re: Main 50 Amp Engine Breaker

I have seen the fuse holder terminals corrode and sometimes the plastic will become brittle and the terminals will seperate from the plastic. Water wreaks havon on plastic electrical parts as well as metal. Also, I agree that you should start at the switch and follow the path back to the starter. Check all the switch wire ends for corrosion and separation and deterioration of the wire. Let us know how you make out.
