Maintenance Confession

So, a week ago I launched by 1987 Wahoo 16.2 with a 1984 Johnson 75 into my local lake. I tooled around and spent a few hours fishing/testing tackle. Returning to the marina, I pushed the throttle wide open and it started to die. Ah, hell, bad gas or something. I limped back to the marina, got some fresh gas and oil in the portable tank, checked the in-line filters, and tested it again. Same issue - very erratic and loss of power on full open throttle.
Today I pulled the boat out, checked the plugs, removed the air cleaner, and with a flashlight, inspected each of the three carbs one at a time. And....
in the second carburetor, wedged against the choke plate, pulled out the 5 inch red spray nozzle adapter for the engine fogger I had sprayed in there last fall.

I offer this confession in the hope I can prevent this humility from falling on another.

Just goes to show why there are times that we are unable to diagnose problems over the internet. Who could possibly guess that?

Did it run alright after you removed the nozzle ??

Just got it back on the water, and no, it did not solve the problem. Other threads about death on WOT indicate fuel line, fuel pump, and dirty carbs. Will chase that troubleshooting tree in the near future.

Just out of curiosity.. When you winterized your engine, did you add a stabilizer to the gas?
