Hi Everyone, First time user

Have a 3 Liter MerCruiser and plan to do my own maintenance, When you look at the maintenance Aid section there are so many different types of grease that they call for (2-4-c marine with teflon, lubricant 101, Quicksilver Gimbal grease, coupler spine grease, etc. etc.) one pump of this, 8 pumps of this etc.

My question is can you get away with buying one type of grease to do all fuctions, If you buy every grease they call for you are spending $100 and you have enough grease to last you 5 life times.

Re: Maintenance lubrication

Hi,
Well then use 2-4-C for everything.

Re: Maintenance lubrication

I use Boat Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease for everything. It is salt water resistant, and works well. The only other grease you might consider is the Merc Special Lube 101. It is specifically formulated for the stainless steel steering cable end. On those sterndrives used in salt water, the SS cable end can corrode inside the aluminum tube. The Special 101 lube is a bit better than regular grease for that purpose.

BTW - there is a forum for sterndrive questions.
