Should be a manual with lots of tips---if you don't have one, get one.

Keep water out of the gas and don't flip the thing upside down and it will run a long time. If you turn it updside down and it runs for very long, expect carb and cylinder problems.

On the drive, check impeller clearance each year----best to run stainless steel impeller if you are going to keep it a few years.

Sorry---I read your post as wanting info on a jet ski. There is a gent from Alaska who will be along shortly who runs a jet boat. They are less maintenance, but you give up some performance and they are a bit tricky to drive and dock.

My kids ran the heck out of a Yamaha jet ski for years and we never had any problems with it----our friends with 2 Sea Dos always had one in the shop and one that ran great.

I prefer the I/O for what we do----ski, tube, wakeboard and just cruising the river.

Good luck! Compare prices on the internet before you buy----this site, boats.com, and boattrader.com are good sources.

Okay, the Utopia is available with either the 240hp EFI V6 Merc or the 250hp Mercury Optimax engine. Both engines require the same maintenance as an outboard powerhead. As for the jet pump and drive, there really isn't much that an owner has to do except keep the intake free of debris and don't leave them in the water long enough for algae and/or barnacles to grow inside

not necessarily...the 4 stroke requires regular oil changes, gear oil changes,etc...whereas the jet boat is a 2 stroke so-no crankcase-no gearcase...BUT no matter what engine/boat you buy-an annual service is still required

I have a 1999 SeaDoo GTX w/Rotax FI, a great machine that will keep going well with the proper maintenance and sane drivers. If capsized follow the appropriate procedure noted on the label on the rear of the machine ( properly mounted upside down). Get a manual for yours, about $25 hard copy, $10 electronic version on CD available all the time on Ebay. Let dealer do the winterizing which includes jet pump lube and other checks, it's worth it for $75. And, be careful...bad things can happen at 60 mph on a 9 foot craft.
