Re: Manatee 1550T

this is what i do when i am inspecting a boat, that is suspect is water logged. i take a 2 inch hole saw, that you put in a drill, i cut a whole in the floor, then i have a piece of 3/4 inch pvc pipe, that i knoched teeth in the end. i twist this down into the foam, and retrieve a core, push the core out, and you will immediately know if there is water there. if there is not water, i reinsert the plug with 3m 5200.

If you don't want water in between the deck and hull, why do they put a hole in their? Why wouldn't the builder just seal the deck? Why would they put foam between the deck and hull if they didn't want water trapped in their? These questions must seem stupid to you. But I guess that's what these forums are for. Thanks, Jim

Re: Manatee 1550T

if a manufacturer, could develope a way to keep all water out, they would not need the hole. unfortunately, water will eventually find a way it get in. the hole is to drain surface water, but over the years, the foam breaks down and becomes absorbent, and holds water, the stringers rot due to the moist atmosphere. this is the reason you need to investigate your boat some more. a boat can hold up to 500 to 900 lbs of water in saturated foam.
