I have a set of Hi-Tek stainless exhaust manifolds on a V6 Merc 4.3. Does anyone have reference to a part number for the anodes? Hi-Tek say they are out of a Cummins 6BT marine diesel and can post some to Adelaide for me but it must be easier than that, surely! I would assume many marine dealers in Adelaide would have the anodes, I just don't know what part number they are or if many different zincs will screw on to them.

Cheers

Unless they are a specific shape, any zinc will do the job. The only requirement is that it is electrically connected. Use a multimeter and make sure you have a good connection....

Just Google pencil zinc. They should be about 2" long. Just need to know are they 1/2" in diameter or 3/8" in diameter ( or go off the threads of the brass plug)

I'm on your side Scott. Ideally just removing one and looking at it would possibly give me enough answers. However, the boat lives at a shack 160+km away. That has it's pro's and cons when it comes to maintenance. It's a long way to go just to pull one out to gain example. Pencil zincs come in all sorts of lengths, diameter and thread size. My idea was to have a crack at finding the exact answer so the whole exercise only has to be done once on my next trip over to the shack with the right part already on hand. I'm sure we all understand that one.

I contacted Hi-Tek but they won't give me the info I'm after, (like a part number). They will happily sell me the correct ones + postage from the east coast down to Adelaide but that's always back to the long way around every time I need to replace them. My logic tells me that many marine shops in Adelaide will have the exact part I need.

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and accepting the long way around for the first time and buying them from Hi-Tek. Once in my hand, that will now tell me size, diameter and thread pitch (and with any luck, a simple part number). Then buy local from then on.

Cheers for your input.

There are 3 diameters, 2 of which are used on Cummins HX's The 1/2" and 3/8". Use a hacksaw to cut down the length of needed.

Buy both 3/8" and 1/2" both in 2" length.

A pack of 3 is $10

Now you've got my attention Scott. That's more the answer I'm looking for. Length was not a major concern as yes, cut down is easy. Is was more diameter I was concerned about. At that price a pack of each should make it a lot easier. At least it now gives me a target to aim at. Good work fella.
