Manifold check Valve???

I had the engine on the muffs and while it was running I noticed a little bit of fuel coming from the bottom right corner of the air silencer plate. The manual says this is a check valve. There is a hose connected to the bottom right corner of the manifold. Does this mean my carbs are flooding??? Or is the check valve bad?

I took off the carbs and found some small hunks of dirt in the lower carb float bowl, so carb kits are on the way.

The manual says a bad check valve could cause a misfire in the engine.

I have been chasing the "put in gear and stall " problem and wondering if this could be the cause.

Hm.m.m.m, what manual are you using? I am aware of that hose and its purpose, but this is the first time I've ever heard that it is supposed to be a check valve.

Anyhoo--the hose is a drain for any fuel that spills or blows back into the silencer. Instead of just letting it drain into the boat or water, they had the decency to pipe it back into the intake manifold where it will go through the engine and be burned.

I seriously doubt that it is the cause of your stalling.

I am using a OMC shop manual..... the thing is kinda confusing, it covers all engines of that year from 2hp up to V-6......you have to really watch what you are reading...one can get confused real fast.
The hose is connected between the intake and the air silencer plate... while the engine was running , fuel was leaking from the hose into the air silencer plate, not the other way around.
