Manual T&T With No Pin?

Hey all I have a 78 merc 90 6cyl with a 78 15.5 ft crestliner amf crusader This motor has manual trim and ive been restricted to which boat launches i use because i set the pin at second closest to the transom . It is really hard to put the pin in while in the boat so i do it before i launch. Yesterday i used no pin just let the motor go all the way down , i got on plane and everything was good . Lifted the motor to the manual lock position to fish close to shore Besides bad fuel consumption is it ok to use my motor with no pin in ? Makes everything easier Thanks

Without the trim pin, the motor can hit the transom and chew it up. You realize that if you put the motor in forward, the reverse lock should release, and you can tilt the motor, with the pin installed? There is no need to ever remove the pin.
