Manually Tilting 88 Force 125

Recently purchased a boat. Had the boat out this weekend and the tilt/trim on my 1988 Force 125 stopped working. Currently trimmed in downward position. When I hit the switch I hear a click, but no movement. I suspect a leak in the hydro cylinder. I've been searching the board and want to try some to checks mentioned, but it seems I need to get the motor in an elevated position.

Is there a trick to manually tilting the motor in the upward position. When I lift the motor by hand, it moves about 6 inches and then meets resistance. Is there a procedure I am unaware of? This is my first outboard, and I do not have a manual yet.

nope. no trick. can't be done with disabling and/or removing power tilt.

Power trim takes as much power as a starter. Consequently, it uses relays to avoid running big expensive cables back and forth between switch and motor. Most marine trim relays are actually standard generic automotive headlight relays with a doubled or tripled price tag. After people caught on to the ruse some companies started adding a rubber boot to justify the extra $30 charge.

Try checking the circuit breaker that feeds power to your relays. It is inside engine, underneath the carbs, over near the starter. If that doesn't work get some $6 headlight relays and try that. If that doesn't work double check your wires for corrosion. If that doesn't work, get your pump ay. rebuilt.

Thank you RRitt. Turned out to be a loose connection on the circuit breaker. Topped off the fluid and working like a champ. I appreciate this board and all the knowledgeable people willing to help the less experienced.
