Re: Manuals

Thank you. I found the manuals and downloaded them but can't seem to find the instructions for winterization. I was under the impression that this section was in there along with pics to show where everything is located.

Re: Manuals

Guess they don't put it in all the manuals. Here is the draining instructions for your engine. I would suggest you disconnect the flushing hose and remove the fitting from the block to drain the block. Otherwise it could plug up and you wouldn't see it.
Have the engine sitting level, Use a screw or nail to probe the drain holes, and make sure the block and manifold are drained.

Re: Manuals

So if I'm seeing it correctly and understanding you Don, to drain the engine I'd remove plug B and then remove the hose from the engine (A) and drain from there too. Those are the only 2 spots for draining the engine? I'd then loosen the hoses to the water pump and drain those as well? When you flush with fresh water do you do that with the B plug out or in?

Flushing is done BEFORE draining, go make sure things are cleaned out as much as possible. Then you drain the engine.

One other thing to drain that isn't even mentioned in the manual is to remove the large hose from the engine circulation pump and drain it.

Re: Manuals

So this may sound really dumb but when I attach the garden hose to A and turn the water on to flush it out, where does that water go? The engine is not running during this time period, correct? Also, if I were to change the oil/filter, that would be done before these steps, right?

Thank you for your help Don! I'm just a newbie that is trying to figure everything out so I can do this on my own. It would be so helpful if people created videos that could be purchased/downloaded giving intstructions.

Re: Manuals

The water goes out the exhaust, just like it does when running.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider flushing like that. All the water you put into the block through that hose, has to get out of the engine through a small bleed hole in the thermostat housing. If that little hole gets plugged up, then you have cooling problems.
Probably why Volvo stopped using the flush hoses to the block drains on all their engines.

Yes. that way you are flushing everything and the thermostat even opens.

Re: Manuals

How about changing the oil in the lower unit, any diagrams or anything I need to guide me there? Also interested in how to do the impeller. Gave the shop guy my spare to change it out and was charged $85! I've heard it is a couple minute job that is pretty easy.

ttt

I also have a question about draining the block still. When I read other people's posts that make it sound as if there are 4 spots that need to be opened and drained but the diagram I look at only shows 2. are there 2 on the other side and they only show one side?

Re: Manuals

If you have questions on how to work on your engine and drive, you should be doing that in the Volvo forum, and try to use a new post for each different question so people can see them. This thread is titled manuals, not how to change gear lube, or drain the engine, or winterize etc.
