I don't know how many of you guys throughout the country have heard this story, but it's pretty huge here in NH.

This piece of chit kidnapped his son and daughter from a fireworks show in a neighboring town. He then shot both of them, wrapped them in duct tape and trash bags and buried them in the midwest along I70.

He was caught in California and extradited back after a brief stay in Ohio where he "helped" search for the bodies.

He committed suicide last night by strangling himself in his cell. When the news broke this morning that he was dead, I was hoping someone had killed him, he got off light.

The reason he shot his kids was because he found birth control pills in his daughters dresser and lost it. She was 14, his son was 10. Burn in hell, Manuel

Guageguy - Was this guy divorced? Estranged? At odds over court ordered custody arrangements?

That's right. No paying for this scumbag to sit in prison for lord knows how many years and I have to pay for him.
Save us a bunch of money and pull the switch on all of them.

If you go out with intentions of hurting/killing someone, die.

Does it make a difference?
Not in the since that ‘dead is dead’ or that each of us is accountable for our own actions. Why the children where killed definitely makes a difference in preventing future occurrences of this kind.

Since the early 90’s I noticed a rise in occurrences of parents killing their own children. I read everything I could get my hands on that was readily available from news sources. Most of the killers had something in common, once you discounted the crazies. What was left is a group of divorced people feeling disenfranchised by the legal system. My guess is these people may be feeling as thought they have nothing to lose, the worst possible scenario in an adversarial legal forum, and they try for the biggest impact on their way out. If I’m right, it’s not about the kids; it’s about hurting the surviving ex-spouse and/or a demonstration of ‘I’ll show you’ for the system. The problem is not limited to dads, either. Mom’s are killing their children as well.

I have had significant training specific to this type of situation. In almost every case where a parent hurts their child, the act is a vent for stress, and the parent soon regrets their action. This is not to suggest anyone is ever excused from their choice of action(s). Probably why the killer saved everyone the trouble and took his own life. Unless you are of the ilk that would treat the symptom, I suggest there is value is in looking at the root cause.

Re: Manuel Gehring dead

So then, if we go out and kill someone and then realize this was bad, that makes it alright?
Nope.
Divorce, separation, child support, alimony goes on all the time.
Nothing you can do about that.
That's just part of it, but they don't need to use that as an excuse for killing someone.
That won't float a boat in my eyes.

If they have a problem, go see a doctor, not kill.
I don't think it was about that anyway.
He found BC pills and blew up and shot her and then shot the boy so he could not tell.

Now I am glad he is gone.
Good riddance.

Now that the scum bag took his life there may not be any closer for the remaining family members. May never find the bodies of them children,no decent burial.

Re: Manuel Gehring dead

There are no winners in this tragedy. To know a man killed himself means there was something hanging over his psychie. (sp) The best we could hope to know is how something like this can happen.

I really don't know where Rabbit is taking it but I think the more you can learn to help prevent another case like this from happening again to someone else is important. If we use the information for the legal pukes to put forth another lame excuse for letting the guilty go free, then forget it. But I have seen how tramatic family stresses can almost destroy a person. Todays disposable relationships have an impact on society, and perhaps this is an examply of what can happen. Identifying cues to prevent this sad case from happening again may be the best we can get from this tragedy, but it is better than this cowards solution.

Pointer – you nailed it exactly. It’s not about the guy that did this or any excuse anyone wants to assign to his deed. Frankly, it would be lost on me; the victims are still victims. But it is about preventing it from happening to other children. Catching the people that do these kind of things is immediately achievable, but it is after the fact and does nothing for the children/victims. I would likely like that it does not happen again if in way preventable.

He had been divorced for several years. Joint custody with the wife, he got along good with her and her boyfriend. In an interview, she said he was extremely jealous and very protective. Finding the BC pills sent him over the edge. Just a plain sicko. The forensic reports on the vehicle said there was brain tissue all over the back of the van. He shot them in the head. Moms that drown their kids and dads that shoot them, at least this one is taking a dirt nap.

A few arrows carpy. And they would be placed well enough where he wouldn't die for a very long time. Lots of foot, hand and gut shots...make the SOB suffer. Funny how the definition of "well placed" changes in different situations, huh? ;)

They caught him just east of San Diego, probably getting ready to cross into the motherland. I was really hoping some inmates were gonna take this guy down, kinda sucks he got off by taking his own pathetic life

Sad sitch. Sad for the mom. Sad for the little kids that didn't get to grow up. Sad for little girl who was prolly beyond innocence, and I don't know if she knew Jesus as her savior. Sad for the little boy, bu at least he is with Jesus. Sad for the father who needed some kind of help. I sure hope Jesus comes back soon. This world must be breaking His heart :(
