Manuel release valve for t/t

I need to fix my manual release valve. I have a 1999 Johnson 50hp 2stroke. I replaced the seals in the ram and stopped fluid leaking out of the top. To do so I had to use the manual release valve and I believe it is messed up now. The engine slowly leaks down while standing and watching it.

Are there seals in there as well that may cause this? Can they be replaced without having to buy an entirely new valve system $$$$? Also...when I remove the valve will all of the fluid escape from it?

The valve should seat inside the housing, you might try loosing it and the tightining it again. Maybe there is something holding it off of the seat. There is an o-ring that seals it, #9 below.

So, I removed the valve and saw that the seal on the valve towards the rear was broken. This seal is the smallest of them in the valve assembly. I called my local marine shops and none of them had the seal.

I went to Lowes Home store and started poking around the plumbing department. In the faucet/sink repair area I found a multipack of seals that looked suspiciously familiar. Took it home and wouldnt you know, one of them fit perfectly. Looks like a dead match. At $1.62 for the pack it was a good deal, considering the OMC version was $2.26.

Everything works now...except that my rack steering is frozen. Its always something.

Daviet...does that #9 seal go between the valve assembly and the retaining clip?
