Bought this boat last year, it is registered as a 1976 newman, however I can find no newman boat like this. It us a 14ft fiberglass tri hull. I'd plate is worn off a d no I'd markers in it. According to the state, the "vin" # was generated about 10 years back. Really hopi g to finger some info on it as I need a new motor. The 73 mercury 200 20hp i have runs great, but lower unit is shot. Neighbor has a 50 hp mercury with controls he will sell me for $150.

Pics don't work...

how does it run now with the 20 on it? Without seeing pics, I'm GUESSING the 50hp is fine. I've owned 15.5' tri-hulls that were rated up to 85hp.

Welcome aboard Bowhunter. Like H2O said, your link doesn't work. You can see how best to work with photos in our TUTORIAL.

Assuming a 14' tri-hull, 40HP to 75HP is probably going to be the range you need. So the 50 may do. If the boat is truly a 1976, there's a HIN stamped on somewhere (usually in the stern, just under the rubrail). If not, she's older than 1973.

So even though I was told it was a newman, the hin shows it as being a tom sawyer, however tom sawyer stopped manufacturing in 73. The steering wheel says bass charger, however tom sawyer and bass charger were both bought out by Thompson boat. I'm guessing who ever got the title before may have gotten a mistake either on their part or the marine board made a mistake. I will try and work in getting pics posted. I do know that the 50hp motor is not 255 pounds like I read, I was able to lift it myself
