Been doing a lot of reading in the forums and it would seem that synthetic oils are far superior to conventional oil. If this is so, why havn't OMC, Mercury Marine, Yamaha, etc. came out with their own brand name synthetic oil? I'm not trying to start anything, but am just curious as to why they wouldn't. Maybe some do and I just don't know it.

Engine manufacturers don't make oil. They buy it from major oil companies in their own label containers and mark it up a ton to cover advertising, marketing and merchandizing costs.

I don't think current demand is high enough to justify that.

"Johnson GT" oil was a "special formulation for high performance outboards" synthetic...back in the mid 80s. Brought to you by OMC.

Evinrudes label was called "Evinrude XP".
