First off...MANY thanks for the help and advice on the Mariner 115 project. Its up and starting and running great after plumbing in an enrichment valve. Dragged another 115 home today, an '87 Mercury 115. The PO said the trim motor burned up and he let it down by opening the bypass valve. Got it home and started checking and I'm pretty sure the trim motor is shot. The bypass valve is still open, but no way can I lift it by hand to get to the trim motor. Will I do any damage if I lift it up with my engine hoist?

Thanks!

I'd disconnect the trim shaft or something to get the trim unattached from the transom bracket or the engine's mid section till you find out what's wrong inside the trim unit.

Looks like you have the PTT style where it is all between the transom brackets. Unbolt the PTT from the brackets (4 or 6 bolts), remove the starboard side transom clamp and you should be able to unbolt the PTT motor. If you drive out the tri-lobe pin, and then the tilt pin. the whole PTT unit will be able to be removed.
