chum,<br /><br />Marathon is the new name for what used to be called Grumman (spelling?) Boats. Grumman Boats was a subsidiary of the Grumman aircraft corporation and their aluminum boats had a classic reputation and were the choice of many summer camps where durability was important. When Grumman decided to get out of the boat business, the employees wanted to retain the business which they did, and began producing the same boats under the Marathon name which comes from the tiny village where the factory is located in upstate NY. They still make the boats exactly the same, just a new name. I have their largest canoe, a square stern 19 1/2 superb hauler. You can tour their factory if you are ever in the region. I live about an hour away and have followed their history.<br /><br />Dave addison
