I was thinking about mounting 2 marine box speakers under the dash of my fish and ski because i don't want to cut holes in my boat and these just seem more convenient to mount/remove.

My question is have any of you guys used these before? do they have good sound quality? and do you think they will be loud enough to hear while cruising.

heres a link to the ones i was looking at.

Re: Marine Box Speakers

Those look just like the ones I have hanging on the side of my garage pointing out on the patio/deck.
Mine are black and came from Lowes and cost less. They have been getting rained and snowed on for 4 years now and still sound fine. They are no Bose but they dont cost like them either.

Sorry, but had to laugh when I read that. Bose is no standard to measure any other speaker against....except price.

As for the OP, almost any speaker designed for outdoor use will work quite well....Polk, Klipsch, Thiel, etc.

Crutchfield has a pair of Polk outdoor speakers for the same price as the ones at West you linked to.....and the Polks probably sound better, too.

Just spend some time searching out outdoor speakers......LOTS of choices out there.

Re: Marine Box Speakers

ya, check around good, they don't have to be "marine" speakers just out doors and there are alot of them.

We had some wake board speakers at work that sounded really nice but I think they were Rockford Fosgate and pretty spendy.

If you change your mind on cutting holes your options for speakers go way up, I have 2 Rockfords and 2 Infinitys on mine with a Rockford head unit, 180 watts total and it jams, scares all the fish away but you know.

i have a set of these I bought from Bass Pro last year to put in the runabout.

They sound great for the price. I was a bit suprised at how good the actually sound compaired to some of the outdoor speakers. I looked at the Bass Pro website and I couldn't find them but I know they were on the shelf a few weeks ago.

Re: Marine Box Speakers

Thanks for all of your responses, i didn't even think about outdoor patio speakers. There pretty much the same thing, and i know just because it says "marine" on the box its automatically more expensive. Plus these speakers will be mounted under the dash so they will prob never get hit by water unless its by the hose while washing the boat.

This was my quick fix last season, a stereo cooler. But its kind of bulky and heavy and i want the fish and ski to have a permaninate stereo. The cooler was cool because i could use it in any boat or take it to the beach/pool with me, but i would defiantly make one with wheels next time.

No highs, no lows, must be Bose! :p:p:p

That is the saying we use in the home theater industry. We also say "better sales through marketing", as a play on their "Better sound through research". I have dealt with bose for over 20 years, and there is so may things that are better for the same price.

Re: Marine Box Speakers

So it isn't just me, we got a surround sound a few years ago and I looked at a Bose system and a Sony system that wasless than half as much and the Sony blew me away, the Bose was really loud but aht was about it, never cared for there home speakers either.

Blake, love your cooler stereo, I just dig solutions like that, take what you have on hand it and make it do what you want, very cool.

Still don't want to cut some holes?

Re: Marine Box Speakers

yea i was proud of the cooler lol, i could of done a better job but i think i put about 15 mins of work into it, but anyway.

i would cut some holes if i could find four good spots for the speakers it just seems like there is no room for them, its a 1988 Ebbtide dynatrak 17.8 SS.
I was thinking that four of thous dual box speakers that Crazyinkc would do the trick and there only 40 bucks a pair.

Heres some pics of the boat, let me know if you have any ideas that would possibly work for cutting speaker holes. These pics aren't the best there just from my phone while i was doing a small resto to the boat. And keep in mind theres upholstery side panels all along the boat that you cant see in the pics because i haven't got the chance to take updated pics.
