i have a 2.3L OMC. i got a reman 2.3 from a local friend and it runs great. however. i can not get the same rpms. the original engine ran wot close to 5000. i can only get the new engine, that came out of a 83 ford ranger, up to 3000. so, my questions are does the original marine engine have specific cam and crankshafts? or am i overlooking something?

thanks,
james

Look up the specs for the donor vehicle motor and firn the bore and stroke numbers then compare to your marine engine.
The cam is most definitely different. You may want to look into changing that out.

yeah, i found that site yesterday too. still i have not found any cam specs for the 2.3L. i guess i can buy a clymer on that year but that seems like a waste of money just for a little bit of info. i guess i should just change the cam to increase bottom end torgue. i have been told that i need to find one with a duration around 200, give or take a few, and the highest lift i can find that will keep that duration at 200. hopefully i have been given accurate info.
