Where can I Get a pair of marine distributors for my 1976 mercruser 165hp inline 6 engines without breaking the bank to make my boat safer?
I am new to I/O boating and inboard engines and great lake boating and do not know the in and out of these boats. Learning as I go!!! I need whatever information that I can get. Thank You

Both motors have G M Electronic ignition on them and I did not get the original distributors with the boat when I bought it. I did not know there was a different in marine distributors and assume the person I bought it from did not know either!

Ouch That's not going to be easy. The last 250cu in (165) used by Mercruiser was 1981. Junkyards, ebay, boatshops old and established. You may need to even buy an old, dead engine and strip it for the dissy....

I would start by searching this site that sponsors this forum. Just type in what you want in the search box on top of this page.

Be careful buying used distributors as those old parts could have worn housing bushings, causing the shaft to be sloppy. This can cause erratic timing and dwell,,, or those settings bouncing around and not being stable. If you can wiggle the shaft in the housing and feel the clearance, it's too much. Installing electronic conversion kits may very well make the shaft slop a moot point though......

Also, be aware that Mercruiser had a 165HP 4 cylinder engine, and of course that distributor won't work for your engine(s).
