Hey guys just bought a 115 hp mariner looks like 1988 edition 6 cylinder looks clean exept sparkplugs when there is rust on them. It was in storage in florida without cover.
Tilt n trim working fine just as far i checked so far.
It did not come with wiring and no battery cable on it. I know where to connect batery cables on it. And will do seafoam lube before turning engine 180 degree than will do another 180 after 24 hrs..
new sparks and new fuel filters will be installed after i manage to turn him over..question is can i use remote start on solenoid to see if it will start so i can check compression on cylinders. I got new juice boxes from my mariner 90 and cdi box but this is going to be double. I hope i will make it running

Will post pictures once i get home

Jumper the starter solenoid to crank it over to test compression.

If it has the engine harness, you can test spark as well. You will want to disconnect the yellow stator wires from the rectifier to avoid burning out the rectifier. With no boat harness, the motor should have spark, as the boat harness serves to ground the ignition..

Ok so here it goes. All cylinders are 125 psi. Ii do not have harness since i got motor from a friend who drove boat to junk and did not take harness. Just took the motor off.
I jump starter solenoid it will fire up but as soon i let go it shuts off. Could the problem be because j do not have harness to start it with the key.

What do i need to disconnect to let the motor run for couple minutes..

also it looks my fuel pump is not passing fuel thru the filter at all. So i will take her off today and try to clean and see what may be i issue.
Stator wires are like gummy so i replace most of them by saving good wires and cut bad one off.
For 450$ its a steal but just wanna make him run couple minutes before my boat arrive from paint job.
Thanks hope someone can explain how to get it running without controls and harness

Took fuel pump off, opened cleaned looks like brand new after i opened. All springs are still in great condition and little filters inside pretty clean. Must be mine prime pump since its pumping fuel in so slow stream.
Will get new hose and pump tomorrow to check that out. My other friend will bring his boat with 90 mariner. So i can disconnect his harness and try my motor on it. Will use his fuel from boat too. Not sure that will help.

Also since i replace wires on CDI boxes does it matter if i switch red up down or blue up down. Yellow and black are ok and ground is just jumped from one to other.
