Hello, I am new here and I hope somebody can answer my problem.

I have a 1989 ProCraft Fish & Ski with a Mariner 115 outboard. It is actually my Dad's boat and since he is hard of hearing he had the warning buzzer wired to a horn so he could hear it if it went off. I dont know if they disconnected the buzzer or if they just tapped into the wired and it is running both.

First, where is the buzzer located in the boat? I think it is disconnected because I dont hear it when I turn the key on, just the horn.

Second......I was flying across the lake with my wife and son last weekend and the horn started going off. I immediately shut it down and turned it off. I checked the oil and it was fine (about half a tank) and the temp gauge was at the first hash mark. I then turned the key to the on position (motor still off) and the warning was still sounding. I trolled over to the bank (didnt want to look like an idiot sitting on the main body with the cover off the motor)and took the cover off. I didnt see anything obviously wrong so I put the cover back on but it still sounded the warning with the key in the on position. It started to rain (my luck) so I started the motor and headed in at an idle (after cutting the wires to the horn).

The motor sounded completely normal and the temp gauge stayed right about the first hash mark, went a little above but would came back down.

How does the warning system work? Does it sound off on low oil in the tank? Or does it detect oil pressure going to the carbs?

Dad thinks it is possible the water pump is going out, I think there is some kind of problem in the warning system because the warning was sounding without the motor running.

Thank You in advance for your help.

Ed.
