I have a 1993 Mariner 115 serial #OD212776 and model no. 7-115412BD. The hot engine alarm (steady beep)comes on after running for awhile but it has at times come on as soon as I started the engine. The water discharge is warm but not hot. I was told to unhook the wire(purple) that senses the heat. The number on this part is H857A6 2342. The alarm stopped going off and I ran the boat the rest of the day but checking the block to make sure it was not getting hot. Nothing happened to the engine. My questions before I go to the dealer are: 1. What is the name of this part 2. Is there any other part that could have gone bad 3. Does this part fail frequently

Re: Mariner 115

There is no purple wire that goes to the temp sender on this engine. There is a purple wire that goes to the warning horn that will certainly stop that horn from working.Where on your boat or engine did you unplug this wire?Warning horns fail sometimes.Sending units fail also ,but not so frequently. Wires get worn and cause errant warning horns.Sometimes even the wrong plugs can cause these things to go off.
