Mariner 135 SparkPlug Change after Winterization

Hey guys, this is going to be my first spring start up after winterization for my 135 Mariner Outboard. I have heard that I should replace the plugs. I am new to outboards and boating in general. Does anyone know what size and how many sparkplugs this 135 takes ? Also is there anything else to remember during the spring start up other than new fuel, new fuel pump, and grease ? That should cover it. but I wouldn't think you need a new fuel pump though.

sorry I meant the fuel filter. Any info on the sparkplug size or type ? Is it a big project to replace these or pretty simple ?

Look at the ones in it or look in your manual. and a yes on the fuel filter and plug replacements, I change those out more by use and not ever season. I change plugs out at 100 hours and I don't use a extra spin on fuel filter. But the marina I buy my fuel from has fuel filters on the pump and they change those out a lot.

What year is your Mariner? Normally a 135HP motor will be a V6. Normally they will use a gapless spark plug. I normally put fresh gas in my Mers 135V6, run her on the hose until the fogging oil burns off, and then toss her into the water.

Chris, It is a 1991 Mariner Marathon 135. Is it necessary to change the plugs?

You can inspect them. It should have gapless plugs, so inspect the center electrode for wear. If not round and squared off (like a sliced pepperoni), the plug is worn, and should be replaced. Plugs last for years. You can usually get them at an auto parts place for 1/2 off a marine store or dealer.
