mariner 150 quits pulling

I have an 89 procraft with a mariner magnum II 150 on it and right before it planes out it quits pulling. (motor revs up)The boat has been running on a laser II 13-22 prop for the last 4 years. I changed the prop thinking it was spun, to a vortex 13-21 and it is doing the same thing. Is there any way the cables could have anything to do with it, because it seems it is coming straight out of gear. Or is it simply cavitating?

It sounds like it is ventilating (cavitating is a different thing). Trim the motor down all the way and see if it improves. Is the antiventilation plate even with the bottom of the hull? What has changed suddenly? Did you add a pad to the hull or something? Did you raise the engine up?
