Looking for any and all info on my "new" 1984 Mariner 40 hp serial # 6E9L-412333 (40C EL). Is this the same as a Yamaha 40 hp of the same year? What is the difference between a Mariner/Yamaha and a Mariner/Mercury? Are these parts interchangeable? What is the carb re-build kit and coil replacement #? What is the best reference guide/manual for the beast? What would be the right sized replacement prop for this motor on a 1969 14' Mckee Craft? (boat weighs about 500lbs by itself)
Any or all questions would be appreciated by myself and others. THANKS!

ps.found this website chart for looking up Mariner year if you have serial # -

Re: Mariner 1984 40 hp Info.

congrats on your boat! Good buy! The motor was worth that! I've got the same motor in a 1986 model. It sat 11 years in my barn and I just "woke" it up a couple weeks ago. I've got some of the same questions as you on the motor. I do know it was made by yamaha for mariner. I'll stay tuned and hopefully learn something also......

Hey jkflatt! Thanks! Good luck on your awakening. That's a long time for a motor to be stored, but I've heard some great stories of how they fire right up. Not sure if you're having the carbs worked on, but you might try some gas additive called Seafoam when you get her started. You let it circulate through the fuel system, then let it sit. This allows the Seafoam to hopefully loosen/de-gum your carb. Fire it up in the next trip or two and run it out of the fuel system. I'm about to do this with my motor when it warms up. I've heard from several sources that this does a great job cleaning up your carbs without a total re-build. (which is preferred, of course, but I don't have the funds right now.) Anyway, good luck. Can't wait for Spring!
